How much are you preapred to sacrifice?

Let me tell you about a couple I worked with a few years back. They'd been doing everything right - tracking their finances, saving for their deposit to buy their first home thinking about the future.

 Then one day, they bought a ute. Not because they needed it for work. Not because it made sense financially. They literally told me that they might as well spend their money on something they enjoy. Sounds crazy, right? Especially when they were just a few months away from buying their first home

 In my 6 years of helping over families plan to buy their first home, I've seen this mindset destroy more financial futures than almost anything else. These folks want everything NOW. Must have it immediately. And how do they fund it? By borrowing more money.

Making it less likely that a mortgage approval will be forthcoming, for as long as the debt is in place, sometimes for a period for as long as 5 years.
